YOU ARE GO! Educational Space Simulations A-OK! The Wings of Mercury A-OK! 3.0 - Internal Panel Sets

"How do you get an entire panel on one screen?" We don't. Some flight simulators cram an entire panel within two 800 pixel screens, making many controls and instruments unreadable (which doesn't matter since they don't work) or may you scroll across a the entire panel (which sounds nice, but slows things down–usually when you need to get to a particular control on the other side now!). What's needed is a fast way to get from one part of the control panel to the other. Click on the thumbnails below to get a larger picture.

Those with 800 or 1024 pixel wide screens can use the Direct Select option and Panel Set feature.

This is the Full Panel View. When you mouse over a section of the panel, the cursor will turn from an arrow to a magnifying glass. Clicking will bring up a full-size version of the Sub-Panel you were pointing to.

When screens were 640 pixels or less, we used a small floating palette to allow you to instantly select the section of the panel you needed. For those with smaller screens, we still offer the Panel Selection Palette option.

Window View

Here we see Sub-Panels being arranged. A Sub-Panel can be moved any time by dragging it.

You can make a Sub-Panel disappear by shift-clicking the Sub-Panel.

3.0 has the ability to store arranged combinations of Sub-Panels in Panel Sets.

Organizing Sub-Panels

You can have ten Panel Sets. After you've arranged your Sub-Panels, typing shift and a number key will store the arrangement in a Panel Set.

Here, the Fuse, Attitude Control and Sequencer Sub-Panels are arranged on a 1024 pixel screen and stored in Panel Set 1. This is the left side of the Mercury control panel.

Panel Set 1

In this shot, the Environmental, Electrical, Communication and Warning Sub-Panels are available in Panel Set 2 by just pressing the three key (3).

You can clear the screen by pressing the backquote key (`).

Panel Sets allow you to jump from the right side of the control panel to…

Panel Set 3

the center panel with just a touch of the number two (2) on the keyboard.

(Yes, we know Mercury never flew in polar orbit–we were in a playful mood and thought it would be fun to fly over Antarctica!)
